Hold On

A father without a child
now sleeps until the dawn
was strong but now he’s splitting at the seams
the son who knew the word
found pleasure in the dirt
he was broken like the bottles in the street

He said “hold on to the bottles on the wall
their empty as the nights I spend alone
and hold on to the bottles on the wall
because everything is dying in the sun”

a boy with soft brown eyes
saw her walking by the creek
he stumbled in the mud, they both fell in
now he's grown eyes of stone
he finds her bathing in the street
the boy could only watch her fall apart

she said “hold on to the love that you can feel
even if you know that it won’t last
and hold on to the love that you can feel
because everything is ruined by the dirt”

A thief who lived for pain
and lied until his death
was dead until he was dying on a cross
the King who knew his name
was dying with him too
His tears were as innocent a His blood
